A non-contact loop controller that features time filter circuitry to prevent stock from dragging across the floor or rewinding unevenly is available from Waddington Electronics, Inc. of Cranston, Rhode Island.

The SONA-TROLŪ St-6 Ultrasonic Loop Controller incorporates a sensor head that can be mounted from 18" to 20 ft. above a loop to measure changes in stock distance as small as .010" and control the unwind and rewind tension. Compensating for stock bounce or sway, it performs loop measurements at up to 100 times-per-second and if seven measurements are outside the preset limits it changes the take-up and/or pay-out speeds or trips an alarm.

Capable of discarding inaccurate or false measurements, the SONA-TROLŪ St-6 Ultrasonic Loop Controller can be equipped with an optional upper time filter which prevents the measurement of robotic arms or other objects that occasionally pass in front of the stock. Other standard features include built-in provisions for external measurement control by a PLC or computer and adjustable distance zero offset, receiver sensitivity, and gain.

Literature and pricing are available upon request.
